India is a big consumer of MIGs. They crash so many.. Maybe they should spend more money on training and maintenance before buying new planes...

Comment on Hybrid Aircraft Program Announced. by Joe PDF Print E-mail

See, I knew it could be done... My idea was to use flywheel kinetic storage batteries - which have twelve times the energy density of chemical batteries. They also offer an exciting "spin-off" (pun intended) - they can double as gyrostabilizers, potentially eliminating the need for aerodynamic stabilizers, thus, streamlining the fuselage. It might be impossible to twist such a plane off kilter.

Comment on Obama Aims to Ax Moon Mission. by Joseph Johnson PDF Print E-mail

Dave sounds a little racist to me! Obama can't win for losing;i.e., "...spends to much; cutting spending to much", & on & on! Bush & company drove our country to the brink of economic ruin,e.g., unfunded wars; massive billion $$ giveaways to renegade( Chaney!) contractors; loss of revenue via huge tax breaks for the super rich etc etc. If you people know of a better way to try & recover from years of republican corruption & stupidity than stop funding non essential ( nice to have someday) federal programs- then lets hear it! Our U.S. tax monies should be spent ( especially now!) on securing the well being of all it's people. What's going to the moon again have to do with that!? I guess it's because we have hundreds of billions $$ laying around that we just don't know what to do with- right? Yeah right!!! I wish Obama would initiate a nation wide joint federal/private sector effort to build a mass transit system on par with the U.S. Interstate Highway System implemented by the Eisenhower Administration. This would be of major benefit & create jobs jobs & more jobs!!!!!

Comment on Do Space Start-Ups Mean Compromised Safety? by gil PDF Print E-mail

Why does he even care? He's not the one who will sit on top of the rocket. Entrepreneurs and adventurers are willing to risk their lives to go to space, so what? I take my hat off to them. I think a lot of people are worried that private enterprise can do it better and cheaper than NASA. Space is a new frontier for aviation and Big Brother has no business regulating it.

Body scanners are a violation to my privacy by being a virtual strip search!! Also, just consider the technology that is being used by these machines. 'T light' is a new kind of technology, how can I know what kind of effects it can do to your vital organs! Only dangerous terrorists freaks should be scanned!!!-see for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terahertz_radiation

Comment on Pilot Diverts Plane Over Teen’s In-Flight Prayer. by Capt. Obvious PDF Print E-mail

The crew did exactly what the situation called for. You don't take chances with this stuff. The thoughtless "why" people will come out and question the crew's actions regardless of the outcome. It is best to determine if the boxes were harmless while the plane is on the ground and clear of passengers. If the boxes were later found to contain semtex instead of ancient scrolls and the pilot failed to divert, the question would have been why did the pilot keep flying when this kid was "clearly" strapping to himself some kind of explosive device disguised as a tefillin. I don't understand how this kid, or his parents, could have thought that strapping little black boxes to your person on a plane load of people would be such a good idea. That is the part that is stupid if you ask me.
